School Can Be Fun
Do you know that suicide is the second leading cause of death among college students? The main cause of suicides is untreated depression. (http://www.suicide.org/college-student-suicide.html)
Six percent of undergraduate students and 4% of graduate students in the U.S.A. seriously considered committing suicide. And 48% of undergraduate students and 38% of graduate students thought about dying in the last 12 months. Pressure in school is one of the main contributing factors to such thinking. (Drum et al. 2009)
School Can Be Fun project aims to remove stress from students and protect them from depression. For every student: rich or poor, ambitious or passive, with average intelligence or ingenious school can be fun!
The fun is not going to parties, hanging around and making fun of teachers. The fun is to know what kind of job I would like to have in the future and how will I get there. Because we live in a very time demanding period, knowing techniques and methods to save time is important in remaining depression-free.
The "School Can Be Fun" project consists of several e-learning courses focused primarily on high school students and young college/university students. It explains in an innovative way how to be effective in studying. It is not just about introducing several study techniques, but about having a more complex view of student life. At first I have to understand who I am and where I am going to, and after that, it makes sense to learn how to be effective on my journey. This is the project‘s philosophy.
Long-term effective students must find the right balance in using the right methods, at the right time, with the right motivation. This project helps to find this balance.
